AMSTERDAM'S CHEESE TASTING
Great Food, Good Stories, & New Friends
Fri & Sat, 4pm - 5pm
Our mission is to tell you the story of the Netherlands through its favourite food: Cheese!
In a co-starring role is wine (or beer) and other delicious nibbles. Everything we serve is organic, and you’ll be seated around a communal table. Marcel, the owner of the Netherland’s first all-organic delicatessen, will share his passion for cheese with you.
The tasting portion of our event lasts about 60 minutes, but guests sometimes linger a bit longer to continue chatting over an extra glass of wine.
Afternoon
CHEESE TASTING
(with wine)
Sat 4pm - circa 5pm
€45pp / Group Size: 10 max
- 6 organic Dutch cheeses – four main ones and two with smaller servings so that you sample more
- 2 glasses of organic wine or Dutch pilsner
- Other organic nibbles – fig jam, mustard, grapes, crackers
- Group size max 10 people
- Beautiful setting – the wine-and-cheese shop where these are held is not a tourist shop!
- Relaxed and personalised hosting style
Over the course of about an hour I explain the Dutch via their cheese. I somewhat pretentiously say I nourish your mouth and your mind!
We then serve some bonus home-made chocolate from a local patisserie and carry on in a leisurely manner for another 15 minutes or so. We either chat about all things Dutch or you can pepper me with your questions about hidden Amsterdam gems.
Looking forward to seeing you,
Rory

This is in Amsterdam Zuid. It is not the touristy centre, but it is VERY accessible from it. From Central Station (the metro part, not the train station part), hop on Metro 52 and you will be here in 15 minutes from door to door.
From anywhere in the centre of Amsterdam, a visitor is realistically no more than 30 minutes (or less) away from us.
We detail directions from various Amsterdam landmarks on this page.

Great Food, Good Stories, & New Friends
Our mission is to tell you the story of the Netherlands through its favourite food. Cheese is always the star of the show but you’ll find plenty of other Dutch foods (and drinks) at our tastings and tours.
Our events have a social and relaxed feel, because, well, there’s food and drink involved and why wouldn’t you?

Dutch Countryside Food Tour
Private Tours Available
Dutch Cheese Tasting is hosted by Marcel, but it was started by Rory, who also runs Amsterdam Tulips Tour. Rory runs off-the-beaten-track minivan tours into the Dutch countryside during tulips season. However, this is a very short season and (April and a bit of May) and for the rest of the year needs to keep busy somehow!
If you’d like to taste and learn all about real Dutch food, whilst exploring old Dutch towns and a picturesque landcape of dikes, polders, and windmills, consider booking Rory for a private driving tour.
Private Countryside Food Tour
We take you on a backroads countryside food tour:
- Explore the rural area just north of Amsterdam known as Waterland
- Travel over dikes and through polders as we skirt the edge of one of the largest lakes in Western Europe
- Enjoy a leisurely walking tour of the harbour town of Monnickendam and enjoy delicious homemade apple pie
- Travel to the Beemster Polder, a Unesco World Heritiage Site
- Visit a family farm (not a tourist farm!) in the Beemster Polder and learn all about milk and cheese production (and how they make small-batch ice-cream from the cow’s milk)
- Visit a working windmill from the 1600s.
On this tour we visit real Dutch vendors and food producers. This is not a tourist itinerary. The following foods are included. Please note that, depending on the day of the tour, one might be closed. We’ll always have a great alternative:
- Dutch apple pie – made on site in a very special cafe
- Farm-fresh icecream
- Cheese
- Dutch fries / friets
- Cheese
- Liquourice (the Dutch love it!)
- Dutch charcuterie
- Dutch beers (not a Heineken in sight!)
- Local fruit juices
The tour takes five to seven hours, depending on the group size.
The cost is €850 in a car or €950 in a minivan for up to eight people. The cost of the food is not included, and you should budget €40 – €50 per person.
