ABOUT US

Rory

Originally Irish, I moved to Amsterdam in 2014 for a relationship, and quickly fell in love with Dutch culture. It inspired me to start a little tour business, and I soon found my niche doing off-the-beaten-track tours.

I personally despise tourist cliches and believe travel should be about discovery and connection.

On my main private tour route, we visit an authentic Dutch family farm in the Beemster. Amongst other things, they are part of the Beemster Cheese Dairy cooperative, so over time I got to know quite a lot about cheese from them, and from visiting the dairy.

Periodically, guests would ask to include a cheese tasting on the tour and it was quite a natural thing to do. Once, Covid ended and visitors were back, I realised no one in Amsterdam was doing a classy cheese tasting, so I thought I should do it!

I had become friends with Marcel from buying cheese and wine from him for my tours, and thought a collaborati0n on a cheese tasting event would be fun.

I also run www.amsterdamtulipstour.com.

On my main private tour itinerary, we visit a Dutch family farm who are members of the Beemster Cheese Dairy co-op, and I got to know about the cheese-making process through them, and periodically would include cheese-tastings at the request of clients.

Once Covid ended, I realised no one in Amsterdam was doing a class cheese tasting so I thought I’d do it. Marcel and I knew each other because it was where I bought wine and cheese for my tours, and we thought a collaboration on a tasting event would be fun.

Marcel

Marcel is the owner of For Your Taste Only, the cheese and wine shop where our tastings take place.

He started For Your Taste Only in 2014 after leaving his corporate career with Dutch bank, ING. Marcel was in charge of ATMs for them, but along the way whenever his department needed a fun outing he would organise and give wine and cheese tastings.

An avid foodie, Marcel has over 600 bottles of wine at home. He can’t really pick his favourite Dutch cheese – it’s like asking to nominate your favourite child, but when really pressed he might express a preference for Kinderdijk Bio Kaas.

For Your Taste Only

This is the shop where our tastings take place.

Marcel started it in in 2013 and it’s now a beloved part of Amsterdam’s foodie scene. It only sells organic produce. That’s mainly wine and cheese, but also some other delicious nibbles (olives, nuts, cured meats, and much, much more).

The address is: Maasstraat 118, 1078 HN, Amsterdam.

For Your Taste Only is easy to get to: It’s a 5-minute bike ride from the Albert Cuyp Markt. Or you can take the Metro (52). from Central Station it’s 7 minutes to the Europaplein station and from there a six minute walk.
