5 Great Amsterdam Cheese Shops

Amsterdam has more than five great cheese shops. However, you don’t need to know each and every one. These five shops are spread out around the city so there’s a decent chance you’re staying near one of them.

Amsterdam has more than its share of tourist cheese shops. These sell over-priced cheese that is on the mediocre side. To be honest, if you buy cheese from one of them you’re world won’t end! You won’t really know any better. But why settle for that when the real deal is close to hand. Here’s our list.

(If you’re the owner of a great cheese shop not on this list, feel free to get in touch. I’ll change it up over time).

Loekie

Address: Ceintuurbaan 400HS
Nearby Hotels: Hotel Notting Hill, Hotel V Frederiksplein

The Loekie family have been cheesemongers in Amsterdam since the 1880s, so there’s quite a tradition there. That first shop was in the Jordaan, they had one in more recent times on the Utrechtsestraat and this one is not that far from there on Ceintuurbaan.

De Kaas Kamer

Address: Runstraat 7, 1016 GJ Amsterdam

Nearby Hotels: Pulitzer, Andaz, Ambassade

An absolute Amsterdam classic of a cheese shop. Slap bang in the middle of the famous 9 Streets, they have a beautiful selection of Dutch cheeses, sandwiches to go, wines, and other goodies.

For Your Taste Only

Address: Maasstraat 118, 1078 HN, Amsterdam

Nearby Hotels: Victorie, Nhow, Novotel

Our cheese tastings take place here because it is my personal favourite (and not vice versa!). It’s also the Netherland’s only all-organic deli.

This is in the Amsterdam Zuid (South) neighbourhood. It’s a proper, peacefull neighbourhood, away from the touristy hustle and bustle. But it’s still incredibly accessible: From Central Station, take Metro 52 and be there in 10 minutes. From de Pijp you can catch Metro 52 and be there in 5! Or if you fancy a leisurely walk, it’s about 30 mins from the Van Gogh Museum.

Nearby Hotels: Hotel Sebastiaans, Max Brown

You’ll also find fancy French cheeses here, and other goodies, but they also have a fine selection of Dutch cheeses, and great wines too.

Fromaggerie Kef

Address: Marnixstraat 192

They actually now have three locations around Amsterdam. The one listed here is on the western outskirts of the centre. You’ll also find French cheeses here too in addition to Dutch.
